Grand Canyon Caverns
This roadside attraction is just plain fun.


Though it was a dry cavern without stalactites or stalagmites it was fun descending 21 stories underground and viewing colorful mineral deposits.
A bit cheesy, but fun nonetheless.



We continued to Holbrook, AZ. Had to set up early....possible rain and snow tonight though it is sunny and windy right now.

The Adventure Begins

The Adventure Begins
We left our home with our Little Boy trailer all packed and the red truck filled with camping goods. This is the longest travel day of our trip from central California to Washinton, D.C. We arrived at the KOA in Kingman, AZ. just at dusk, but set up was the easiest we ever had in all our camping trips.

Bedtime Story

Since buying my iPad we keep in close contact with our GRANDchildren. The last couple of nights Joshua has used FACETIME to read us a bedtime story. He is in pre-school and learning so many reading skills: sight words, blending sounds, thinking about storyline, etc. Now I need to step up to the plate and select a book for tomorrow night, and read a bedtime story to both Joshua and Abbey. I encouraged Joshua to read to his younger cousin William on FACETIME. What a great way for long distance families to keep in touch and support family literacy at the same time!

Smocking revisited

To those of you who learned to smock from lovely Penny Fuller, you must remember working with a pleating machine. I drug mine out to organize my busy work for our cross country adventure. I'm attempting Christmas ornaments. Six pieces are pleated and measured ready to start smocking. I had forgotten how much I like the needlework....quite different from years ago. At that time I had little Jessica and an active Chris who kept me on my toes! Now my busy retirement keeps me on the road 50% of the time.

Quilt Club

Quilt club is a gathering of caring and talented women of all ages who love to quilt and more! There is no agenda, no dues, no committee reports, just a gathering of fun loving women!


13 years ago a small group of women thought they would teach themselves to quilt all on their own...no class, just a book on quilting to guide them! This group has grown to a group of about thirty. We cheer each other on, work together to understand directions. Some have donated creations to Children's Hospital, Veteran's Hospital, Operation Smile, and a variety of local charities.


This doll is the model for a collection of 300 dolls to be donated to needy children from the valley. A member of the quilt club is organizing this effort in between her own sewing and crocheting.

Good People!

What has been the best experience of this trip is meeting people from all walks of life. Our Little Guy trailer sparks so many conversations. Everyone, every single person we met are uplifting, hopeful and good natured ....not like you hear on the news all the time. Yes they are concerned about gas prices, but wonders why in a five mile radius the cost of gas could be so different...why all the greed in oil. Met two fellows yesterday, one returning to Mississippi and another from the border of Arkansas and Louisiana. The one from Mississippi was on his way home after visiting Sequoia Nation Park near our home. He noticed Steve's Sequoia t-shirt. The one from the border of Louisiana and Arkansas just couldn't get over how far we had traveled, he was pleased to stay close to home! Chatting with him was like sitting down with an old friend sharing bits of of our lives...what fun.

GRANDma's Bag

The weekend flew by! We traveled down south to visit Joshua and Abigail! Grandma's bag came in handy since the weather kept us inside all day Saturday. The art portfolios were a big hit. Abbey enjoyed the beading blocks, Hello Kitty coloring book, and counting flash cards that were found in my bag. Josh and I played Fish and many games of Crazy Eights. Next time I will add music to my iPod for Abbey to sing and dance with.
